A leap of Faith — into stardom

Malverne girl appears in ‘SNL’ sketch with Paul Rudd, One Direction

Malverne’s resident starlet, Faith Wladyka, has built a résumé that would leave many show business types envious, acting alongside the likes of Ryan Gosling, Justin Timberlake, Paul Rudd and One Direction — and she hasn’t even aged into double digits.

Faith, 9, a fourth-grader at Our Lady of Lourdes School, has a budding acting career in film and television, and was most recently featured in a sketch on the Dec. 7 “Saturday Night Live,” alongside guest host Rudd and musical guest One Direction.

In the sketch, Rudd played the biggest — and presumably the oldest — superfan of the boy band, waiting in a mob of fanatical girls, one of them played by Faith, to meet the musicians after a concert.

“At first I didn’t know if I was going to make it [into the final cut], or if the skit itself was going to make it,” said Faith, who received a call to appear in the sketch the day before the show. “So I was so excited when it came on, and I didn’t know how many people were going to like it. I was really happy when I heard so many people liked it.”

In the skit, Rudd was shown braiding her hair, and, referring to band member Louis Tomlinson, he asked: “On the count of three, what was the name of Louie’s first dog?”

Before Faith could respond, Rudd hastily answered, “Ted!”

“You didn’t count,” she retorted.

Faith said that Rudd was fun to work with on the set. She recalled how, in a scene that didn’t make the cut, his character sampled a cookie from a batch baked by one of the young concertgoers, for the band, spit it out in disgust and threw the rest at the crowd of girls. Once the cameras stopped rolling, Faith said, Rudd apologized to the girls.

“He had to act a little mean in [the sketch], but he was really nice,” she added.

Faith also said she is a fan of One Direction’s music — though not as crazed as her character in the skit — and was excited to meet the band at the taping.

Having made her debut in a Johnson & Johnson commercial when she was just 10 months old, she said she enjoys acting because she likes to have fun working with her friends.
