The two stars share heartwarming and humorous stories of their years growing up in Chicago and New York.

Seasonal Adventures

Poetic Musings
See the endangered piping plovers that nest on our beaches during the spring and summer months, at a Piping Plover Poetry Writing Workshop at Jones Beach. Observe these charming creatures, and with the piping plover as a muse, write about them with Nassau County’s first Poet Laureate, Maxwell C. Wheat Jr. To add to the artistic expression, guitarist/composer Jerry Ahern performs songs about Long Island. Bring a brown bag lunch.
Saturday, June 16, 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Theodore Roosevelt Nature Center, Jones Beach, Wantagh. (516) 780-3295.

Exploring Nature

Amazing Honeybees
Get up close with the honeybee, with the assistance of an expert beekeeper at Muttontown Preserve. Explore the life of the honeybee, including how bees make honey and beeswax, how they “air condition” their hives, and the duties of the queen bee. The program includes a lecture about bees and their behavior, followed by an outdoor display of bees.
Saturday, June 16, 10 a.m. $5. Suitable for all ages. Enrollment is limited and registration is required. Bill Paterson Nature Center, Muttontown Preserve, Muttontown Lane, East Norwich. (516) 571-8500.
