The summer vacation officially came to a close last week as students in the Malverne and West Hempstead school districts started their first day of school.
The local streets were filled with parents and children walking to bus stops and school buildings. Crossing guards could easily be spotted on the corners and administrators were seen welcoming students to the start of the 2009-10 school year.
District 12’s first day was on Sept. 8 and the West Hempstead district welcomed its students back to school the following day.
