Police seek info about W.H. bank robbery
Robbery Squad detectives are investigating a West Hempstead bank robbery in which a a tall middle-aged black man on Thursday, Jan. 12, around 5:10 p.m., presented a demand note to a teller at the Capital One Bank — at 116 Hempstead Turnpike — and fled the scene on foot after obtaining an undetermined amount of money.
The 6-foot-two man, who was said to be between 40 and 50 years old, was wearing a gray puffy jacket, a red and white Yankees baseball cap and silver-rimmed glasses, according to police, who said the ran from the bank heading eastbound toward Nassau Boulevard.
There were seven employees and one customer in the bank when it was robbed. No injuries were reported. Detectives ask that anyone with information about the robbery call Crime Stoppers at 1-877-TIPS (8477). All callers will remain anonymous.
