District 13 starts new charity fund

The Valley Stream school district’s Educational Foundation received $1,300 from the Reliance Lodge Charity Committee, after establishing in its by-laws a charity fund for needy children.

The new fund, known as the Valley Stream District Thirteen Educational Foundation Inc. Freesmasons’ Charity Fund, will provide school scholarships to help students pay for public transportation and purchase school supplies and other goods and services necessary for their education.

Foundation President Toni Pomerantz gratefully acknowledged the $1,300 gift, saying, the Fund will always maintain a $1,000 balance. To expand the funds, the district superintendent would have to recommend such to the Fund’s Board of Directors, who would then have to vote to approve the recommendation.
