It’s time to put a stop to political correctness

Representative Peter King got it right.

Nidal Hasan, the 39-year-old Army major who killed 13 soldiers at Ford Hood and left many more injured, is a devoted Muslim of Jordanian and Palestinian decent. Witnesses at the scene said that before Hasan opened fire, he shouted, “Allahu Akbar!” Arabic for “God is great!” These are also the words shouted by suicide bombers before they attack and kill. While shooting, Hasan reportedly bowed his head in prayer while innocent people died.

Hasan was not only Muslim, which of course is not criminal or even questionable, but allegedly had ties to two of the Sept. 11 hijackers and other radicals, and was sending money to Pakistan. He vocally opposed the wars in the Middle East, saying that they were wars against Islam, not against terror. He said his fighting in Afghanistan created a conflict because of the teachings in the Koran, and he sought legal advice about getting discharged, alleging that he was harassed for being a Muslim.

Some have questioned President Obama’s handling of this national tragedy. It is the first time that the U.S. has faced this type of attack on American soil. Obama has been extremely reluctant to call this a terrorist attack, and chooses to refer to it instead as a “crime.”

Let me be clear: This was an act of terror against our country that could have been prevented. The American people have a right to know that the FBI or the military was asleep at the switch.

On several occasions, Hasan met with officials from Walter Reed Army Medical Center regarding his mental state. His behavior was described as paranoid and schizoid. Regarding Hasan, one official said, “Everybody felt that if you were deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan, you would not want Nidal Hasan in your foxhole.” Does this seem like an individual who should have been on the verge of going to war to defend our country?
