Five people are recovering after a three-car collision in Malverne on Nov. 12.

Malverne Fire Department, Police Department and Ambulance Corps responded to an accident on Hempstead Avenue at Birch Road around 4:50 p.m. last Tuesday, according to officials.

In an “off-set head-on collision,” said Malverne Police Chief John Aresta, a vehicle heading northbound crashed into another heading southbound on Hempstead Avenue, causing the second vehicle to spin into southbound traffic and hit a third vehicle.

When officials arrived at the scene, the driver and passenger of the second car were found trapped inside, according to Fire Chief Scott Edwards, which prompted firefighters to cut open the driver’s side door and free the two victims.

While the driver and passenger in the third car refused medical aid, officials said, the other three victims were transported to South Nassau Communities Hospital by the Malverne Ambulance Corps, and are currently in stable condition.
