Malverne Firefighters battle car fire on Southern State

Malverne Firefighters responded to a car fire on the westbound side of the Southern State Parkway on June 25.

According to an eyewitness at the scene, firefighters responded to a call around 11:22 p.m. and immediately raced to the scene.

Led by Malverne Fire Chief Scott Edwards, firefighters found a Ford Explorer engulfed in flames between exits 17 and 18 on the parkway. The driver was outside of the vehicle when firefighters arrived.

State Police closed two lanes of the parkway, where firefighters stretched a hose line and extinguished the blaze. Firefighters were on the scene for around 40 minutes. No injuries were reported.
