Our Lady of Lourdes School in Malverne dedicated this year’s annual Christmas party to the late Malvernite Hank Maier on Dec. 15. Maier, who lived in the village for 50 years, was honored for making numerous contributions to O.L.L. and its parish. O.L.L. will rename the basement wing of its school to Hank Maier Memorial Hall.

Several members of O.L.L.’s school and parish, along with Maier’s friends and family, gathered at the Gramercy Ballroom in Rockville Centre to celebrate his legacy. Village Mayor Patti Ann McDonald, who once described Maier as a ‘gentle giant’, spoke to the crowd about what he meant to the community.

Maier’s wife, Maura Maier, received a platter from O.L.L. in recognition of his contributions.
