Jacob Rakhimob, Jocelyn Yeung and Gabby Cunha raced down a bouncy slide at a carnival organized by the Merrick School District’s summer recreation program on July 31 at Birch School. The carnival was a highlight of a summer, with arts and crafts, sports and enrichment learning for Merrick elementary school children.

It was a pretty easy day for Merrick children on July 31 at Birch School. Their assignments: bouncy slides and castles, balloon-making, face-painting, beanbag toss, popcorn and cotton candy eating, hanging out with friends and family. more

The Merrick Board of Education unanimously decided on May 13 that school administrators were not to distribute field tests in math and English to classrooms at Birch, Chatterton and Levy Lakeside schools.

Central, Merrick districts refuse field tests

The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District and Merrick School District recently received shipments of multiple-choice tests, sealed in plastic wrap, from NCS Pearson, Inc., the company that creates and grades New York’s standardized tests for third to eighth graders. PTA proposes installing air-conditioning in Merrick

In an effort to make the learning experience in Merrick a little cooler, the co-president of the Birch School PTA, Segal Negrin, offered to purchase roughly 40 air-conditioning units as the PTA's "gift of school" during a Board of Education meeting last week. more
