Merrick woman charged with aggravated DWI

State police troopers arrested Tracy McCulloch, 38, of Merrick, on April 27 and charged her with driving while intoxicated on the Meadowbrook State Parkway. McCulloch’s two children were inside the vehicle that she was driving. more

At a news conference last week, Lenny Rosado, left, joined by State Sen. Charles Fuschillo Jr., center, and Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg, warned would-be drunk drivers that "the party's over" with Leandra's Law now in effect. The law was named for Leandra Rosado, Lenny's daughter, who died in an accident with a drunken driver last summer. Under the new statute, anyone who drives drunk with a child in the vehicle can be charged with a felony.

DWI with a child is now a felony

Most of us cannot understand what possesses a person to drive drunk. This paper’s position has long been that drinking and driving is potentially deadly behavior that can have the same result as opening fire with a gun in a crowded mall. DWI requires stiff penalties. more
