Dean Skelos and his son, Adam, left federal court after their guilty verdicts on all charges on Friday. Because he was convicted of a felony, Skelos was immediately removed from the State Senate, ending his 32-year career there.

Former State Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos and his son, Adam, were found guilty last Friday of all the corruption charges against them, bringing an end to Skelos’s more than 30 years in the Senate and kicking off a race to fill his now-vacant seat. The jury deliberated the case for a day and a half before returning its verdict. Because of the conviction, Skelos automatically — and immediately — lost his seat in the Senate. more

U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara added more charges to the indictment against Senator Dean Skelos and his son, Adam, late in the day on Tuesday, July 21. Skelos, 67, and his son Adam, 32, were already charged with six counts stemming from what Bharara said was a scheme in which Skelos was trading favors with businesses in exchange for payments made to his son. more
