Calhoun High School junior Irene Kowalski was recently elected president of the New York division of the Distributive Education Clubs of America, helping to oversee 120 DECA school chapters throughout the state.

DECA is a national business and entrepreneurship club that teaches many of the skills needed for a successful career in industry.

Kowalski, who has been a member of Calhoun’s DECA chapter since her freshman year, has served as its social media correspondent while also managing the New York DECA Facebook account, posting photos and updates. Kowalski has also helped coordinate and organize a number of events at Calhoun, including eighth-grade orientation, DECA’s Homecoming booth and the club’s recruitment drive.
