Downtown bank robbed

A man last Thursday robbed the Roslyn Savings Bank at Merrick Avenue and Smith Street, in the heart of downtown Merrick and across the street from Chatterton School.

Nassau County Police said a white man, 5-foot-6, wearing dark clothing, entered Roslyn Savings Bank at 4:22 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23, and showed a demand note to a teller. He collected an undisclosed amount of cash and ran off southbound through the parking lot behind the bank. Six bank employees were present during the robbery, but no one was injured.
