Few outages reported during storm

Long Island's new power authority, PSEG Long Island, has again proven that it knows snow.

The utility reported that as of 10:00 this morning, there were only 17 PSEG LI customers in Long Island and the Rockaways without power. Overnight, 343 outages were reported in Coram, all the result of a downed pole, but PSEG LI spokesperson Jeff Weir said utility crews restored power within the hour.

"Everything went pretty smoothly," said Weir. "The snow came a little bit earlier than we had seen in the forecast, but we had already gone into snow mode."

Outages in Rockaway were reported on Tuesday afternoon, with more than 3,633 customers impacted due to a line that came down. In order to make it safe for restoration, utility crews were forced to shut down two circuits. The outages were handled within 38 minutes. No outages were reported on the South Shore of Nasaau County.

"I think we fared pretty well," Weir said. "Our average time for restoration was 47 minutes."
