Lakeside students salute veterans

Levy-Lakeside School’s Veterans Day ceremony was personal for some students whose father or grandfather served in America’s armed forces and joined them at the event. Levy-Lakeside Elementary School in Merrick brought together veterans with their children or grandchildren on Nov. 10, the day before Veterans Day, for a ceremony that honored the men and women who serve the country while also teaching the children about the importance of our armed forces.
Six grandfathers and one father took part in the ceremony. So did David McDonough, a state assemblyman from North Merrick and an Air Force and Coast Guard veteran. Following the National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance, McDonough, Levy-Lakeside administrators and students offered words of praise and gratitude for veterans’ sacrifices. Students also shook hands and spoke with the veterans.
