Rock the beach with a lively tribute to Abba and the Bee Gees. Then it’s time for a patriotic display of pyrotechnics.

Family Fun

Picnic Party
Nassau County Museum of Art invites families to celebrate the start of summer in its delightful gardens. Join museum staff for a picnic, art and outdoor games during this afternoon of art exploration. Everyone can adorn themselves with florescent materials to experience the full magic of pop artist Kenny Scharf’s gallery installation, Cosmic Cavern, an entire room transformed into a day-glo work of art. Bring a blanket and snack, design a wind sock using a block printing technique, then play a friendly game of paint darts (not the sharp kind) led by the artists of Free Style Arts Association. Transform these blobs and splats of paint into the kind of imaginative creatures that might inhabit Scharf’s art. If it rains, the activities will be moved into a tent.
Sunday. June 26, 1-4 p.m. $10 materials plus museum admission: $10, $8 seniors 62 and older, $4 students and children 4-12. Nassau County Museum of Art, One Museum Dr. (off Northern Blvd.), Roslyn Harbor. (516) 484-9337 or www.nassaumuseum.com.
