Bar altercation leads to arrest

A Merrick woman was arrested for assault last week after police said she allegedly threw a glass during an altercation at an East Meadow bar.

According to detectives, on Aug. 28 at about 3:15 a.m., Sarah Lewis, 20, picked up a glass, and threw it at an unidentified 20-year-old male who had been in the middle of an altercation with her boyfriend.

The glass struck the victim in the head, causing a laceration, and he was transported to the Nassau University Medical Center for treatment, police said.

Lewis was charged with Assault 2nd degree and was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Aug. 29. According to court records, she posted $500 bail and is due back in court on Oct. 5.

People named in Crime Watch items as having been arrested and charged with violations or crimes are only suspected of committing those acts of which they are accused. They are all presumed to be innocent of those charges until and unless found guilty in a court of law.
