Basketball semifinals set

It’s down to the Final Four.

Top-seeded Elmont and No. 5 Hewlett earned victories on Sunday at Hofstra to advance to the Nassau Class A boys’ basketball semifinals.

The Spartans, who held off No. 8 Jericho, 49-41, and the Bulldogs, 69-59 winners over fourth-seeded Floral Park, will meet Friday at 6 p.m. at Hofstra with a trip to the championship game on the line. Third-seeded South Side and No. 2 Westbury are set to battle in the other semifinal at 8 p.m.

The Class AA boys’ semifinals are set for Saturday at SUNY-Old Westbury. Top-ranked Uniondale, the defending county champion, faces No. 5 Hempstead at noon, followed by No. 2 Baldwin against No. 3 Farmingdale at 3 p.m.

On the girls’ side, the Class A semifinals take place Tuesday at Freeport High School. No. 1 Division and No. 4 South Side tip-off at 5 p.m, followed by No. 2 Garden City and third-seeded Lynbrook at 7 p.m. The winners will meet in the championship game on Saturday at 2 p.m. at C.W. Post.

The Class AA girls’ semifinals will be held at Herricks High School on Wednesday, with top-seeded Uniondale meeting No. 4 MacArthur at 5 p.m. and No. 2 Baldwin battling No. 3 Massapequa at 7 p.m.

Nassau’s Class B titles were claimed last Saturday night. Malverne won its fifth straight boys’ championship, while Locust Valley captured the girls’ crown. In Class C, East Rockaway’s girls’ team and Friends Academy’s boys’ squad emerged victorious on Feb. 13.
