Bazarewski lone candidate for North Bellmore fire commish

Robert Bazarewski is running unopposed this year for the North Bellmore Board of Fire commissioners.

Commissioners oversee the fire district’s annual budget and review its policies and practices to ensure that they meet current firefighting standards. Election Day is next Tuesday. The North Bellmore Fire District includes part of East Meadow and part of North Merrick.

Bazarewski has more than 30 years of experience in the volunteer fire service. He is a former state-certified emergency medical technician and has held several leadership positions in the North Bellmore Fire Department, including chief from 2002 to 2003. Most recently he was the North Bellmore Fire District treasurer in 2012 and 2013, working directly with the Board of Fire Commissioners.

Bazarewski has worked for the Nassau County Department of Public Works for 35 years. He and his wife, Riva, have lived in North Bellmore for 31 years.
