In what is an annual tradition for thousands of Long Islanders, the unofficial kickoff to summer fun begins with a trip to Jones Beach this Memorial Day weekend to watch some amazing aerial maneuvers at the Bethpage Federal Credit Union Air Show. For the 8th year, this spectacular two-day display of flying stunts over the Atlantic Ocean marks the start of the summer season for the many spectators gazing at the skies over Jones Beach.
This year, fans will be treated to performances from some of the world’s most elite military and civilian pilots flying a variety of aircraft, including the U.S. Navy’s T-6 and T-34, which will travel to Long Island’s shoreline to represent the U.S. Navy and commemorate the 100th anniversary of naval aviation. There will also be a special performance by the U.S. Air Force’s F22 Raptor Stealth Jet Fighter, known to be the best and most expensive fighter jet in the world, with its advanced combination of stealth, speed, agility, and unparalleled precision. The hundreds of thousands of spectators expected will see performances by other branches of the military as well, including the Army and National Guard.
The renowned fliers will perform maneuvers over the shores at Jones Beach that are sure to elicit “oohs” and “aahs” from visitors, gazing at the acrobatic turns and displays of precision. Spectators will get a rare look at F-22A, the Air Force’s newest stealth fighter aircraft. The Air Combat Command F-22A Demonstration Team performs precision aerial tricks to demonstrate the unique capabilities of the world’s only operational fifth-generation fighter aircraft.
The U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team is another highlight for many. For more than 44 years the Golden Knights have been wowing audiences at air shows and competitions, and most recently, with high profile tandems. The two demonstration teams travel all over the country performing aerial demonstrations at air shows and special events in support of the Army.
