Birch Elementary School celebrates reading

Birch Elementary School in Merrick celebrated the written word at its annual Community Read-Aloud on Friday. School officials, elected leaders and community activists were invited to read to children in kindergarten through sixth grade. Among the attendees were New York State Sen. Charles Fuschillo Jr., Nassau County Legislator David Denenberg, and T.J. Fernandez and Ron Luparello of the Merrick Fire Department. Scott Brinton, senior editor of the Merrick Herald, read to Cara Hardecker's second-grade class.
