Catholic group congratulates contest winners

A North Merrick-based Catholic organization recently congratulated local children for their outstanding contributions to an annual competition that is designed to celebrate the arts.

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Bishop Kellenberg announced the winners of their annual education contest last month, which allows students to create essays, poetry, art, computer art, music and photography. The themes for this year’s contest, which the students portrayed in their work, were “Love Your Neighbor As Yourself” and “Be A Good Neighbor.”

Education contest participants are students enrolled in local Catholic schools. Winners included students from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Regional School in Bellmore; St. William the Abbot School in Seaford; Brother Joseph Fox Latin School in Uniondale; and St. Martin DePorres Marianist School in Uniondale.


Here are the winners:

Essay winners, grades four and five: Marylynn Scuderi in first place; Caitlin Boden, second place; and Emily Stam, third place.

Essay winners, grades six through eight: Kathleen Bishop, first place; Susannah McKay, second place; and Shauna Fowler, third place

Poetry winners, grades four and five: Catherine Reilly, first place; Kevin Sadler, second place; and Angela Boudreau, third place.

Poetry winners, grades six through eight: Charlie Gorton, first place; Machenzie Cain, second place; and Ariana Cserenyi, third place.

Photography winners, grades six through eight: Jack Sadler, first place; Rocco Loscalzo, second place; and Elaina Orlic, third place.

Computer art winners, grades four and five: Donevan Riley, first place; Nicole Masone, second place; and Ava Delossantos, third place.
