Celebrating Greek heritage at St. Demetrios

The St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Merrick recently held its annual Greek Festival, coordinated by Peter Louca, a chairman and vice president of the church.

The church treated guests to Greek culinary delights, live Greek music, games, raffles and rides. This year’s raffles included a paid-in-full, three-year lease for two luxury automobiles, a BMW 3 series and a Mercedes Benz 300 series. All proceeds from the raffle will be used to build a new community center for the church, said Louca.

The event was held over two weekends, and Louca said that thousands of people stopped by to enjoy the festival during that time.

“Everything went well and everybody had fun,” said Louca. “Everybody became Greek for one day.”
