Central District celebrates students of the arts

Central District students of the arts wowed an audience of their parents, teachers and school administrators with their musical and dramatic performances as well as visual arts presentations during the Bellmore-Merrick Cultural Arts Foundation’s 32nd annual luncheon at the Uniondale Marriott last Thursday.

At the event, 22 Central District students in grades eight and 12 were honored for their accomplishments in the arts in a ceremony led by Rona Weiss and Emily Schreiber, who serve on the Cultural Arts Foundation’s Board of Directors.

Among the honoress were:

•From Calhoun High School: Amanda Glickman, vocal music; Joshua Golub, instrumental music; Holly Lavelli, photography; Neil Miller, instrumental music/orchestra; Eliana Parisis, art; Michelle Strauss, drama.

•From Kennedy High School: Andrew George, drama; Jamie Landau, art; Jordan Peters, instrumental music/band; Dana Shapiro, vocal music.

•From Mepham High School: Chase Brennick, instrumental music/band; Adam Koehler, photography; Erin Myers, art; Chelsea Naylor, vocal music.

•Grand Avenue Middle School: Robert Gallo, vocal music; Andrew Katzman, instrumental music/band; Ashley Kido, art/instrumental music/orchestra.

•Merrick Avenue Middle School: Beatrice Brown, instrumental music/band; David Chen, instrumental music/orchestra; Elizabeth Earle, vocal music; Simon Goldstein, photography; Stephanie Steinberg, art.
