If you happened to notice a U.S. military Humvee leading two limousines with giant menorahs atop them through Merrick and Bellmore streets last week, you were not dreaming.
On the first day of Hanukkah, on Dec. 20, the Chabad Center for Jewish Life of Bellmore-Merrick held its annual Great Menorah Car Parade and Menorah Lighting. Members of the U.S. Army's 69th Infantry Division led the procession, which began in south Merrick, made a stop at Sunrise Highway and Newbridge Road in Bellmore, and completed the journey at Sunrise Highway and Merrick Avenue, where a 12-foot-tall menorah was lit.
