Chatterton School celebrates reading

Chatterton Elementary School in Merrick celebrated the written word on Friday with its annual Reading Rodeo, at which elected and community leaders are invited in to read to classes. Among the attendees were New York State Sen. Charles Fuschillo Jr., Assemblyman David McDonough, Town of Hempstead Councilman Gary Hudes former Merrick fire chief Ron Luparello. Scott Brinton, senior editor of the Merrick Herald, read “Math Curse” by Lane Smith to James Keenan’s sixth-grade class, at left, and answered students’ questions about how a newspaper is made. The PTA sponsored the readers' breakfast at this annual event.
