Colts, Cougars dominate the gridiron at Homecoming

Posted

The crisp fall weather was perfect for a weekend of parades and football this past Saturday as Kennedy and Calhoun high schools showed school spirit at their respective Homecomings.

Green filled the streets around Kennedy as students and fans lined Bellmore Avenue for the school's annual Homecoming parade. The procession of students, parents, administrators and firefighters stepped off at the Bellmore train station on Sunrise Highway and made its way south to the Kennedy football field.

There, Catarina Deturris and Patrick Grillo were named Homecoming king and queen. Then the game got under way, with the Cougars dominating Great Neck South in a 35-7 victory.

The streets of Merrick turned shades of blue and white on Saturday as Calhoun’s Homecoming got under way. The cheerleading squad, kickline team and band led the parade from the Merrick train station to a waiting crowd of fans at Calhoun. The groups also put on a show during halftime.

The Calhoun Colts football team defeated New Hyde Park 33-18.
