Four charged with larceny in the Merricks

Police arrested and charged four Suffolk County men with larcenies from automobiles in Merrick on June 11 at 2:50 a.m.

According to police, at 1:29 a.m., officers responded to Clinton Avenue in North Merrick for a larceny that had just occurred. According to police, a witness said four males in a maroon four-door vehicle had broken into a car and fled on Montague Avenue. At 2:01 a.m., officers responded to Lincoln Boulevard in Merrick for a criminal mischief that had just occurred. A witness said that the maroon four-door vehicle drove off southbound on Lincoln Boulevard, past Merrick Road.

Police said an officer spotted the vehicle with four occupants in it and stopped the car on Hewlett Avenue at Lawry Lane. The officer said the taillights had been blacked out. The officer also noticed several backpacks, tools and assorted electronic devices scattered throughout the car. After taking the suspects into custody, police recovered stolen goods that included two car stereos, several GPS units, a full toolbox, a FedEx package, sunglasses, cash and assorted electronic devices.

Edward Javurek, 19 of Bohemia, Nicholas Montalbano, 18, of East Islip, Richard Robertson, 18, of Sayville, and Brian Carey, 19, of Bayport, were all charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, two counts of third-degree degree criminal mischief, two counts of petit larceny and five counts fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

Additionally, the driver, Javurek, was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle as well as several vehicle and traffic law violations. Carey was also charged with fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon for carrying a switchblade knife.

The defendants were arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday.
