Kennedy High School in Bellmore will present the musical “Thoroughly Modern Millie” on Friday, March 20, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 21, at 2 and 7:30 p.m. in the school auditorium.

“Thoroughly Modern Millie” is a high-spirited musical romp, loaded with dance classics like the Charleston. Set in New York City in 1922, the musical tells the story of young Millie Dillmount (played by Kennedy senior Mara Friedman), who has just moved to the city in search of a new life. It’s a story of intrigue and jazz, set a time when women were entering the workforce and the rules of love and social behavior were changing fast.

Filled with frisky flappers, dashing leading men and a dragon-lady of a villainess, “Thoroughly Modern Millie” is a perfectly constructed evening of madcap merriment.

In addition to Friedman, the show will feature Sydney Tepper, Andrew Friedman, Spencer McLauglin, William Kuntz and Cara Slovinsky, as well as a cast, crew and orchestra comprising more than 60 students.

Daniel Sheffield is the show’s director; Christopher Rosselli, the musical director; Lois Schiavetta, the choreographer; and Walter Avellaneda, the orchestra conductor.

Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door.
