Kiwanis honors top students

Posted

Three graduating seniors from the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District were honored by the Merrick Kiwanis Club on May 11 at the organization's annual Student Recognition Night.

Amanda McLoughlin from Calhoun High School, Joseph Testner from Kennedy High School and Sara Golub from Mepham High School were recognized by school principals for their achievements at a ceremony at La Piazza Restaurant in Merrick.

"Kiwanis's principal core is the belief that the most effective way to enhance a community is to enhance its children," Kiwanis President Tammy McLoughlin said. "When you give a child a chance to learn, experience, dream and succeed, great things will happen."

All students recognized are members of their school's Key Club, an arm of Kiwanis that encourages students to take part in community service.

"It's amazing what these kids can fit in to their schedules and on top of school and preparing for college," McLoughlin said.
