Koslow wants to bridge gaps, enhance communities

Seth Koslow connection to the communities he wants to serve on the Nassau County Legislature is not just political, it's deeply personal.

Born and raised in Baldwin, Koslow’s father was a businessman here, and his sister is a teacher, shaping many young minds.

All of that pushes Koslow to want to give back, and his motivating his run to serve in Mineola.

“The main reason I'm running is I love the fact that I grew up here," Koslow told reporters during a recent Herald Roundtable session. "I love the fact that my family is growing up here. I love the fact my father started his business here. My sister is a teacher in Long Island. The fact that I built my family here, the fact I built my business here — like my father did — is something I'm very proud of. "

Having worked as a prosecutor in the Queens District Attorney's office, and then later as a criminal defense attorney, Koslow says he is well-versed in the complexities of the justice system. His background as both a prosecutor and defense attorney uniquely positions him to bridge the gap between communities and law enforcement, advocating for meaningful changes in community safety.

Koslow's campaign focuses on three major issues, beginning with affordability — particularly in terms of housing and taxes. That, along with the high cost of living is making it increasingly challenging for young families to stay in the area.

Then there’s infrastructure. The community faces a number of challenges right now, including sinkholes, potholes and utility rate hikes. Koslow wants to push for needed infrastructure improvements, and ensure funds allocated for these purposes are used effectively.

And finally, there is community safety. Koslow emphasizes the importance of creating a safe and welcoming environment for families. He says he is committed to working with law enforcement and community leaders to create that safety, as well as to provide open spaces and recreational areas for children to enjoy.

And that’s important to Koslow, especially as a father of three. He says he understands the need for youth programs and extracurricular activities to keep young people engaged.

He believes that investing in these programs will not only provide children with positive experiences, but also instill a sense of attachment to the community — making them more likely to stay in the area as they grow up.

“I’m always involved in coaching the teams,” Koslow said. “I'm always active in the community, getting involved with the programs, volunteering to help as a coach, volunteering to drive kids to their games. I'm not a sit-back-and-just-work-all-day dad, I get involved with everything my kids are doing in the community, so that I can be a part of it and know what's happening.”

In light of increasing climate-related challenges, Koslow acknowledges the importance of investing in infrastructure projects that will protect the community from the impacts of climate change. That includes building gates across inlets to prevent major storm surges.

"As someone who has served as both a prosecutor and a defense attorney, I've had the privilege of working with individuals in Queens County, which is probably the most diverse county in the world," Koslow said. "Having spent ample time getting to know my clients, I am confident in my ability to effectively represent the residents of (the legislative district). My commitment is to extend the same level of dedication to my constituents as I have for my clients: actively engaging with the community to ensure their interests are well-represented."
