Levy-Lakeside celebrates reading –– and community

Posted

Levy-Lakeside Elementary School in Merrick celebrated the written word last Friday with its annual Community Read-Aloud, at which elected and community leaders are invited in to read to classes. Among the attendees were Nassau County Legislator David Denenberg, American Legion Third Vice Commander Barbara Byrne and South Merrick Community Civic Association President Joe Baker. Scott Brinton, senior editor of the Merrick Herald, read “One Green Apple” by Eve Bunting to Fanni Reiner’s fourth grade-class, at left, and answered students’ questions about how a newspaper is made. The PTA sponsored the readers' breakfast at this annual event.
