Malverne’s gleeful lunch performance

The Davison Avenue Intermediate School’s new Glee Club in the Malverne Union Free School District performed at the Elevating and Celebrating Effective Teaching and Teachers Long Island Conference, on May 3, at the Tilles Center.

ECET2’s annual event features teachers and administrators from across Nassau and Suffolk counties, where they spend the day discussing collaboration and leadership. This year, they were treated to a special performance from Malverne students on their way to lunch that afternoon. Glee Club students are directed by music teacher Deanna Vitola. The New York State Education Commissioner Mary Ellen Elia along with Regent Roger Tilles attended the performance and stopped for a photo with the talented group.

Nearly 200 educators attended the first national ECET2 conference in 2012. Since then, energized teachers have continued to organize regional conferences to inform and inspire colleagues at home, develop attendees’ leadership potential and hone their craft.
