Man reportedly slashed with knife in Merrick

A man was stabbed while working at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Merrick on Feb. 16 at 8:45 a.m., according to Nassau County police.

Police say that a 63-year-old man was working at the Hewlett Avenue church when was approached by a black male, 45 to 50 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a stocky build, round face and wearing a black sweater and black ski cap.

The unknown man demanded money and pushed the victim, who suffered a cut on his hand with an object that, according to police, appeared to be a kitchen knife.

The suspect ran off in unknown direction. Police request that anyone with information regarding this crime contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
