May 26 event at Moolala to benefit post-prom party

Posted

Moolala, in the Merrick Commons Shopping Center, will donate a portion of its proceeds from every purchase on Thursday, May 26, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., to the Bellmore-Merrick Wellness Council’s fourth annual post-prom party, to be held in June. Simply mention "post-prom party" when making a purchase.

The post-prom party provides seniors with a substance-free evening of enjoyment after the prom. According to the Wellness Council, prom night can be one of the most dangerous nights of teenagers’ lives, when they may feel pressured to drink or do drugs in a “coming-of-age” ritual after the prom lets out. The post-prom party relieves that pressure by offering graduates and their dates a free, safe alternative to the traditional “kegger.” The post-prom party is held at a local club, under adult supervision. In 2010, more than a third of Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District seniors took part in the Wellness Council's post-prom party.

Moolala, which offers smoothies and coffees in addition to frozen yogurt, is at 1664 Merrick Road, beside Waldbaum’s. For more information, call (516) 442-3577. For those who cannot make it to Moolala, the Wellness Council asks that you consider sending a tax-deductible donation to the Brookside School, 1260 Meadowbrook Road, Room 29, Merrick, N.Y. 11566.
