Merokean charged with robbing charity box

Nassau County Police have charged John Jaworowski, 37, of Maeder Avenue in Merrick, with robbing a volunteer with Living Hope Christian Ministries while collecting donations in front of the Pathmark on Carmens Road in Massapequa.

According to police, Jaworowski allegedly approached the victim with a knife and took the donation box. He then took off in a black pickup truck and drove eastbound toward Suffolk County.

Jaworowski was charged with robbery in the first degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, two counts of grand larceny in the fourth degree, reckless driving, two counts of unlawfully fleeing from a police officer in the third degree and numerous traffic violations.

Jaworowski was scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court.
