Merrick and Bellmore remain moderately impacted by Covid-19

Merrick and Bellmore have been moderately impacted by coronavirus as of Monday, April 27, according to Nassau County Department of Health records.

The statistics come from the county’s interactive Covid-19 map, which tracks the number of confirmed cases by neighborhood. It does not include cases pending confirmation by the New York State Department of Health. Merrick and Bellmore’s numbers are divided into four areas, showing:

  • 176 cases in North Merrick,
  • 284 cases in Merrick,
  • 282 cases in North Bellmore
  • and 246 cases in Bellmore.

Compared with other communities to the east, the number of cases is about average. Freeport, which neighbors Merrick to the west, however, is the second-hardest hit community in Nassau County, with 1,198 total cases as of Monday.

The total number of positive Covid-19 cases in Nassau County was 34,522 as of April 26, according to the county’s website, with nearly 1,500 hospitalizations and 1,587 deaths attributed to the virus.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has announced there were signs that the number of new coronavirus cases was leveling off since April 13, but the governor ordered the New York on Pause initiative to continue until May 15.
