Merrick gets ready to celebrate at fall fest

Posted

Fall fun is only only days away in Merrick. The 2009 Merrick Festival, sponsored by the Merrick Chamber of Commerce, is coming to town the weekend of Oct. 2, complete with rides, games, snacks, and a chance to enjoy all that Merrick has to offer.

The festival will be held on Merrick Avenue from Sunrise Highway to Loines Avenue.

Chamber of Commerce Scavenger Hunt

Don't wait until October to join the fun. A scavenger hunt sponsored by the Merrick Chamber of Commerce is going on now. Stop by the Merrick Library at 2279 Merrick Avenue, Aileen's Kids at 2330 Merrick Road or any of more than 30 stores in Merrick to pick up a list of items and start your hunt. This exciting activity, put together by local merchants, is a great way to rediscover Merrick and shop locally.

Work as a team or individually, and remember -- not all items are worth the same point value. Bring items to the Chamber of Commerce booth at the Fall Festival. Three winners will be awarded Merrick Money that can be spent at several local establishments

For more information call Aileen's Kids at (516) 771-5412.

Green Expo

Merrick is going green! Join the Merrick Chamber of Commerce, the New York Power Authority, the Sierra Club, Keep A-Merrick-A Beautiful and plenty of energy efficient vendors for a Green Expo at this year's festival. On Oct. 3 and 4, swing by the Merrick train station parking lot off Broadcast Plaza for an opportunity to learn more about solar panels, green cleaning products, energy efficient roofs and windows, and much more.

"I feel we have to take responsibility for our own town and our own environment," said Ilene Dixel, the Green Expo coordinator and the Merrick Herald's account executive, adding that this is a great opportunity teach people about becoming more environmentally friendly and saving money at the same time.
