Merrick Kiwanis Club's Scrabble tourney a hit

The Merrick Kiwanis Club recently hosted a Scrabble Tournament, which was sponsored in part by the Merrick Herald and held at the Merrick Library.

The tournament takes place annually to provide kids with a fun recreational event while encouraging them to learn new words and expand their vocabulary.

About 60 students turned out for the event, going head to head to determine Merrick’s Scrabble champion.

Tournament winners included:

Fifth grade

First place –– Daniel Marcello and Matthew Abbene (H.D. Fayette)

Second place –– Caitlyn Perrone and Lauren Pitti (Birch)

Third place –– Julia Miguel and Robert Tschiember (H.D. Fayette)

High game –– Caitlyn Perrone and Lauren Pitti (Birch)

High point word –– Patrick Kraemer and Kyle Pilotti (Camp Avenue)

Best sportsmanship –– Taylor Curcio (Old Mill Road)

 

Sixth grade

First place –– Alex Kushner and Maureen Pearson (Camp Avenue)

     Second place –– Alaina Anderson and Julia Losner (Old Mill Road)

Third place –– Alan Ulrich and Eric Stewart (Progressive School)

High game –– Jake Lamonsoff and William Sasson (Birch)

 High point word –– Jake Lamonsoff and William Sasson (Birch)

Best sportsmanship –– Jake Lamonsoff (Birch)
