Merrick Library has two new trustees

Posted

The Merrick Library Board of Trustees appointed Merrick residents Art Sacharoff and Donna Rosenblum as trustees to fill two recently vacated seats.

Sacharoff, a Merokean for 30 years, previously worked as a math teacher in New York City schools. Now retired, he spends his time with his family at home in Merrick and is also an avid reader.

Rosenblum is a 19-year Merrick resident and has been an educator for 23 years. She started as a social studies teacher before becoming a school librarian. She is the library chairwoman at the Floral Park Memorial High School, and is an adjunct professor at the Graduate School of Library and Information Studies at Queens College. Rosenblum is also a board member for the nonprofit organization Reason2Smile, a group that assists impoverished orphans and at-risk children living in developing countries.

Sacharoff and Rosenblum are succeeding trustees Tim Whalen and Walter Mintz. Mintz had served as library trustee for 20 years, 15 as president, before he died on March 20 after a long battle with cancer. During his 20 years as trustee, he played an instrumental role in the development of the new Merrick library, built in 2005. Whalen is moving from Merrick.
