Motorcyclist dies on Sunrise Highway in Merrick

A motorcyclist was killed on Sunrise Highway in Merrick in the early morning on Sunday, according to police.

According to detectives, Michael Galloway Sr. of Freeport was operating a 2006 Yamaha motorcycle westbound on Sunrise Highway at the entrance to the Meadowbrook Parkway when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a sign at 12:35 a.m.

Galloway was rushed to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where he was pronounced dead by hospital staff at 2 a.m. The vehicle was impounded for safety tests.
