NMCA starts 2010 with new home in N. Merrick

Posted

The North Merrick Community Association gathered at the group's new monthly meeting spot, the North Merrick Library, on Jan. 20.

Previously, meetings were held at the Merrick Park Golf Course Clubhouse, south of Sunrise Highway. The location shift brings the monthly meetings closer to neighborhoods served by the North Merrick Community Association.

"We are a North Merrick Association and felt a need to find a home in North Merrick," community association President Claudia Borecky said. According to Borecky, the library was unable to schedule activities well enough in advance to accommodate the community association's meetings. With the help of new Library Director Tom Witt and the library's Board of Directors, a new scheduling policy will allow the library to be the new "home" of North Merrick Community Association meetings in 2010.

At the group's first meeting of the new year, Nassau County Problem Oriented Police Officers reported on recent crimes in North Merrick, including four recent burglaries on Guildersleeve Avenue, Merrick Avenue and Merrick Road. No one was injured in any of the incidents.

The North Merrick Community Association continues to urge residents to join the Neighborhood Watch Program. To learn more about the association, visit www.northmerrickcivic.com or e-mail wawbeek28@yahoo.com.
