PAL kicks off spring with a soccer festival

The Merrick PAL soccer program held its Second Annual Charity Soccer Festival on April 2 at Coleman Country Day Camp in Freeport.

The festival supported three local charities: the Robbie Levine Foundation, the Chordoma Foundation and the Heeley Family Fund in memory of a coach who died earlier in the year.

The festival was open to Merrick soccer players in kindergarten through third grade. Ross Coleman, owner of Coleman Country Day Camp, donated his facility to the PAL for the event.

The festival was made possible by volunteers of Merrick PAL soccer and Merrick PAL police officer Edward Serrao, PAL President Rob Samuels, Developmental Director Skip Haile, Pre-Travel Coordinator David Levine, and Intramural Directors Sal Finelli and Margaret Reed.

“Everyone had so much fun.  Kids were laughing, parents were cheering, and the sun was shining,” said Reed. “What a great way to kick off the soccer season!”
