Reading is 'fun'-damental at Birch

Posted

Birch Elementary School in Merrick celebrated the written word on Friday with its annual Community Read-Aloud, at which elected and community leaders are invited in to read to classes. Among the attendees were Nassau County Legislator David Denenberg and former Merrick fire chief Ron Luparello. Scott Brinton, senior editor of the Merrick Herald, read “Eggbert: The Slightly Cracked Egg” by Tom Ross to Andrea Gatto’s fifth-grade class, at left, and answered students’ questions about how a newspaper is made. The PTA sponsored the readers' breakfast at this annual event.
