Summer fun kicks off at the Merrick Library

Posted

With schools out for the summer on June 23, the Merrick Library officially kicked off their summer reading program on June 24, in an event that was sure to bring out all the smiles from families and kids.

At the Summer Reading Kickoff Carnival, there were loads of activities, including games, a scavenger hunt, a community mural station, snacks and prizes. And for Star Wars loving fans, there was even a Jedi Training session with the Saber Guild — kids got to put their light saber skills to the test.

What’s more is that this summer, Nassau County libraries are participating in the Nassau Library Tour which encourages a summer of exploration.

At participating libraries, kids can pick up a map with a list of attractions in their communities, so they can get out and explore attractions, restaurants and parks nearby.

As they travel around, families are encourages to take a selfie or picture at the location. The more attractions they visit means the more prizes they can win.

The tour kicked off on June 12, and will conclude on August 12. For more, visit Tour.NassauLibrary.org.
