Teachers union reaches out to kids at NUMC

Posted

This past week, the Bellmore-Merrick United Secondary Teachers, the union of Central High School District teachers, delivered loads of holiday cheer to children hospitalized at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow.

A group of five teachers, one retired teacher, a secretary and a custodian swung by the pediatric ward of the hospital to deliver a bagful of toys to kids who must spend the holidays away from their families. Among the attendees were Joe Amador, Kim Black, Mike Dolber, Kristen Fusaro, Vinny Giambruno, Bruce Reed, Brett Schwartz and Susan Stamile.

The toy delivery took place on Dec. 16. The union representatives spent about two hours at the hospital handing out toys to roughly 40 children. The union collects toys at its annual holiday party at The Treehouse in Merrick. Giambruno played Santa Claus.

The teachers union has delivered toys at NUMC for at least 15 years, said Black.
