The Madness continues! Merrick softball team wins L.I. title

Merrick’s 12-year-old Williamsport softball team, a.k.a. the "Merrick Madness," has won the Long Island-Section 6 championship, defeating North Shore 6-1 at Otsego Park in Dix Hills on July 22. The Madness trailed 1-0 heading into the fifth inning of the title game before the Merrick girls’ bats woke up, and in short order the team went up 6-1 and never looked back. The squad finished the District 31 and Long Island Williamsport tournaments with an 8-1 record. The girls will continue their quest for the New York state title in Canostota, N.Y., this weekend.
