Van hits 54-year-old on Merrick Road in Merrick

An unidentified 54-year-old man was struck by a van while attempting to cross Merrick Road in Merrick on Thursday, Nov. 10. The victim suffered head trauma and broken bones.

Police say that a 2008 Chevrolet van, traveling westbound on Merrick Road, hit the man at 6:14 p.m.

A Merrick Fire Department spokesman said that a Nassau County helicopter was on hand and ready to transport the victim to the hospital, but the Merrick Fire Department transported him instead because the ambulance was faster.

Merrick fire volunteers rushed the victim to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where police say he is now listed in stable condition.

Police did not identify the driver. No other injuries were reported, and police are reporting no criminality at this time.
