14th Annual Science Fair at Lincoln Orens

Eighth-Grade Science Award Winners Daniel Sarnelli and Regina Gonzalez used hydrochloric acid to simulate gastro-intestinal fluid. They also tested four over-the-counter painkillers to determine which one dissolves the fastest.

Seventh- and eighth-grade students at Lincoln Orens Middle School in Island Park participated in the school's 14th Annual Science Fair last Wednesday. Students created close to 100 experiments, ranging from testing different types of fertilizer to analyzing the diet of an earthworm. Students, led by seventh-grade science teacher Sheryl Waxberg and eighth-grade science teacher Phillip DeSantis, welcomed family and friends to the Lincoln Orens gym to view their experiments.

Twenty projects — ten by seventh graders and ten by eighth graders — were selected as 2009 Science Fair Award Winners.
